CMP is a Belgian non-profit organisation created in 2003 by, and for, people living with Multiple Myeloma
Mission
- Provide educational resources and emotional support to patients, families and caregivers
- Increase awareness of the disease and its effects on the lives of patients and families
- Advocate for improved access to new therapies, treatment options and health care resources
- Promote access to new drug trials in Belgium.
CMP Vlaanderen is a patient organisation for persons who are confronted with Multiple Myeloma.
CMP aims to be a valuable addition to the professional care.
Playing an active role in life with MM makes patients stronger. By gathering knowledge about the disease and the treatments and by sharing experiences people get a sense of control of the situation.
Since 2008, CMP also has a division for Waldenström disease (a disease related to MM).
Behind the scenes, CMP represents the Belgian MM and Waldenström patient in Belgian and European health care authorities and organisations.
What is CMP doing everyday life?
Emotional support by visiting patients at home, in hospitals or by giving them regular telephone calls. We want to prevent patients from getting isolated with their disease. We organise regular meetings where patients and caregivers can meet and share experiences.
Spreading of information:
Via regional (every 4 months) and national (every 6 months) information days: during those meetings, haematologists inform the audience about the disease, the treatments, update the public about the latest developments in the disease area.
Via our newsletter: CMPnieuwsflash. Every 3 months, our members receive this information letter, which update the readers about the topic of MM
Advocacy: we negotiate with the health care authorities for access and reimbursement of the new medicines and treatments
We inform patients about clinical trials in Belgium
Our Medical Advisory Board, (consisting of 11 prominent Belgian haematologists) assists us in medical issues, gives advise and relevant information
We provide the patients with the SOS patient card (pocket size card with all relevant personal medical information to be used in case of emergency)
We collaborate closely with other national and international MM and Cancer organisation in order to combine resources and experiences.
CMP is member of:
EMP (European Myeloma Platform)
ECPC (European Cancer Patient Coalition)
EURORDIS ( European Organisation of Rare Diseases)
RADIORG (Rare Diseases Organisation Belgium)
APMM (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Plasmozytom/MM)
