Mission

APLL wants to serve, in the sense of improving oncologic patients’s quality of life, through the volunteering and scientific research, analyzing and studying specific solutions for each situation.

Volunteers are presently working in the study of a conjoint of actions and intervention initiatives, directed to the patients and its relatives:

I - Support and comfort
- We have available psychological consults (in group) for patient’s relatives affected by Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma; 
 - We support monthly, economic needed patients with a plafond of € 250,00 to help them in the acquisition of medicines for ambulatory treatment. These patients are selected and directed by the Social Assistant of the IPO FG (Hospital) Oporto´s Onco-hematologic diseases department; 
- We provide pyjamas for the interned patients;
- At present we are working in the collection of the existing legislation related to the Oncologic diseases. This project aims to propose new legislation that promote and protect the patient`s rights.
 
II - Scientific Research
- We support and assign research scholarships for the study of these pathologies;
- We sponsor the exchange of nursery professionals of the hematologic diseases ´s department, to other hospitals and countries, aiming the share of information and methodologies between these professionals.
 
III - Inform and raise the public awareness to the help/ contribution
- We perform several communication campaigns in the written press, television, cinema and direct mail in order to make the population sensitive to the blood donation, bone marrow and platelets;  

- We participated in events (Cycling Against Lymphoma, Patient Meetings, Conferences, Marathons, Handcraft Fairs, ...) in order to attain more notoriety to the cause.
